Research - UX Quote

Research is to see things and think differently

“Research is to see what everybody else has seen and to think what nobody else has thought.” — Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Research begins with observing the things that everyone else can also see. However, the true innovation lies in thinking about what you have observed in a way others can’t do.

This quote emphasizes the difference between gathering information and using that information to generate new ideas.

We can relate this quote to the UX design process.

User research is the foundation of the design process. During user research, you understand user needs, behaviors, and pain points. The real value lies in the UX designer’s ability to interpret the collected data creatively and offer valuable solutions.

Similarly, the feedback collected during usability testing is a list of complaints and suggestions. It is the job of UX designers to see this as a list of opportunities to improve.

While designing, you refer to similar products and find different ideas. Your purpose is not to copy the existing work but to collect ideas and define something different and unique. This is a great example of how you view similar things but interpret them differently.

The true power of UX design lies in looking at the obvious, but thinking differently about it. It depends on how you take the available data, uncover the hidden opportunities, and translate them into innovative design solutions.
