Respectful Design

Respectful, Generous and Helpful Design

“If we want users to like our software we should design it to behave like a likeable person: respectful, generous and helpful.”–Alan Cooper
Make sure to create a design that is respectful, generous and helpful for your user. A design is respectful if it gives respect to its user, and takes care of user’s needs. Whatever user performs or wherever he goes within your design, his actions are handled graciously. The response of design and the language it uses never humiliates its users.
“Everyone likes a person who gives respect to others. If you want your users to like your design, treat your users with respect.”
Your design should be generous enough to guide its users politely in case of any erroneous action and help him to find the best possible solution. A usable design makes easier for its user to achieve his objective. For Example, if a user wants to purchase a mobile phone online, the design guides him through the easiest way so that he can complete his action without any difficulty. Remember, design speaks to its users so make it a pleasant experience for him.
